Dedicated to serving patients in New York and New Jersey
The practice’s journey began in humble surroundings—a small 700-square-foot basement office with a big mission: to provide compassionate, state-of-the-art oral surgery care to patients in need. This mission was inspired by Dr. Tomas Barrios, a dear friend and mentor to Dr. Herbst, whose dedication shaped the early identity of our practice. When he became ill, she was honored to support him in caring for his patients and ultimately stepped in to continue the work he had so passionately begun.
The name is more than just a label. It represents her legacy, her story, and her continued dedication to serving both patients and referring providers with the highest standard of care. We are a 100% family-owned and operated practice, built on the same core values and mission of community service and clinical excellence.
Our Staten Island office is a meaningful expansion that celebrates our past, embraces our future, and continues a legacy of excellence and compassionate care.
This new office represents more than just growth. It’s a partnership built on shared values, mutual respect, and a deep commitment to our patients. Together, as partners, we are proud to continue building a practice that puts people first.
We’re especially proud to open this location in honor of Dr. Richard Berk, who has served the Staten Island community for over 50 years. Dr. Berk is a pillar in this field, not just for his skill and professionalism, but for the honest, lasting relationships he’s built with generations of patients and the community. He is an honorable gentleman, a trusted colleague, and a man of great integrity. We are humbled to carry on the incredible foundation he created in this very office.
As our vision expands, so does our name. With each new office, we’ve unified our practices under one banner: Legacy Oral Surgery Group. This name reflects both our origins and our promise to remain grounded in integrity while advancing oral surgery for the future.
This Staten Island location is a continuation of that promise. We are deeply grateful to be building this next chapter together and to have the opportunity to serve the Staten Island community with the same heart, quality, and trust that have always defined us.
With a new generation entering the dental field—Dr. Herbst’s daughters among them—and the deep professional commitment we both hold, our legacy is not just about where we’ve been, but about where we’re going and who we serve along the way.
